Tips on staying positive & working productively from home
26 Mar 2020
With everything that is going on currently, a lot of us are lucky enough to be able to work from home. We have put together some helpful tips on how to work from home in a positive, productive way, during this time of uncertainty:
Connectivity
Make sure you have a strong internet connection/phone line - there is nothing more frustrating than a slow connection, so ensure you have a good strong WIFI or internet line to avoid annoying load speeds.
Environment
Create a pleasant work area with minimal distractions and everything you need, so you don't have to keep getting up to find things. Ensure you have a suitable, comfortable chair, ergonomic chairs are good for your back when spending most of the day sitting. Wherever you choose to make your work space, commit to working in this area. If you can focus with music or the radio in the background, then do this, you can sing as loud as you like without annoying others in the office!
Breaks
Set specific break/lunch times and stick to them. Ensure you take your breaks, try to go for a walk and get some fresh air, but always make sure you take breaks away from your work space.
Communication
Keep in regular contact with colleagues, a daily catch up call to discuss what has been done, is a great way of making sure you are keeping productive and on track. It's also good to have a laugh with them as everyone, is in the same boat and it is important to be there for one another to boost moral.
Organisation
Create to-do lists every morning before you begin work and tick them off as you complete them. This can remind you what needs to be done, helps prioritise tasks, and gives a sense of fulfilment once they have been ticked off.
Preparation
As tempting as it may be, don't work in your pjs. Showering and getting dressed helps to get you into the right mindset and will prepare you physically and mentally for work. You don't want to be caught on a video call with your boss with bed hair in your pjs!
Exercise
Exercise boosts endorphins which make you happy so keep exercising and stretching, a lot of gyms have produced online workouts on Instagram for example, which mean can follow along at home to remain fit and healthy. If you search home workouts on google there is a lot that can be done with ease at home, without the use of any gym equipment.
Healthy eating
Try to eat a balanced diet, it's easy to grab a packet of crisps or bar of chocolate but after the initial sugar rush, you will crash and find it harder to concentrate, so try to keep a balanced diet, fruit will keep your energy levels up.
