In today’s world, technology has spread across the globe and is constantly evolving from generation to generation. It is likely this relationship between people and devices is going to grow while everyone relies on technology from home during the pandemic.
Digital companies have a medium that can reach not only local markets but an instant global audience. It is crucial for web designers and their teams to ensure their digital products are beneficial to the world. We are part of a global community and we are sharing the same planet, so we would all agree that leaving the planet in a better shape is the right way to go. This is where Ethical Design starts.
So, what is the basic code of Ethics for Designers?
Be a human being
A web designer is foremost a human being. As a human being, we are responsible for the society and the planet. As a designer, we must be conscious and accept that our work will impact many people’s lives, either in good or bad. So, we must judge the value of our work based on this impact, rather than the aesthetics.
Welcome criticisms
Criticisms are a gift when appropriate, they unlock improvements and better ideas. Criticisms increase the chance of genuine success; it also helps to eliminate mistakes and negative ideas.
Understand your audience without being exclusive
It is so important to have empathy and get to know your audience to give them a genuine and relevant solution which solves their problems.
Spread the ethic in your community
To pass on good work ethics and responsibilities to web designers and co-workers around you is valuable. Respect and solidarity are long-lasting values which spread easily.
Stay open and innovative
We must be open to diversity, embrace the difference and welcome marginalized ideas in order to be innovative and produce better designs.
Keep wondering and design consciously
Question what is the impact of the solution on environment, culture, and society. Evaluate and solve the long-term problems that the industry of your client is facing.
